“My dream is that being gay will be accepted and supported by all in the community, or at least the majority of people, so that gay people never have to be afraid or rejected or suffer any discrimination.”
My Child Is Gay:
How Parents React When They Hear the News
By Bryce McDougall
If you have a son and one day he tells you that she is lesbian, what would you do? Will you act against her or understand the way she is?
I believe that there’s true love among GLBT couples. There are not only the loves from their spouses but also the true love from their parents. The acceptances from parents are needed here.
I think the most supporting that could encourage the GLBT to live their lives happily has first come from the family. Some parents truly believe that their children were born in the wrong body at the wrong time. Some parents blame the way they raise their child. Still, there are parents that really understand the way their children are. Keeping your children in struggling about their genders is a risk; your children will be isolated. Don’t let them face the problem on their own. Being GLBT is not unusual. I think they are friendlier than those men and women. They are truly open-minded and easy-going. But the parents did not give them a chance to express their feelings.
If the parents tried to change their children to be the so called “normal people”, their children would not be able to true to themselves in front of parents’ eyes. This will become more discourage them to survive in the world. It will affect their habits to be scared of expressing themselves, instead of being proud of the way they are. Understanding the way they are as GLBT would make them feel comfortable to talk to you no matter what trouble they are facing.
When I first hear the phrase “you are always your parent’s child, no matter what you are”, I really feel that this is the true love of parents. Let’s celebrate for GLBT that there are more and more acceptances from the parents and the society nowadays.
